Today started off early and rainy when we had our second round robin game at the 2016 Underwater Hockey World Championships! We ended up tying Great Britain 3-3! Overall, undefeated day for Team USA! All the other teams won their games!!
Here is what a fan who was watching the game live at home had to say about it:
"What a great game to watch! One of those oh-we-got-this, to shit-we-lost-it!, to phew-we-tied it games. USA vs Great Britain. USA ahead 2-0 at the half, GB comes back to take the lead 2-3 in the second half, but then USA ties it up with 3 seconds left on the clock! Notable quote from one of the GB coaches when they were up a point, yelled with bloodthirsty gusto, "This is ours for the taking ladies!" Sorry, denied.” -Loren Mueller. Thanks for the nice wrap up and posting the pictures (below) Loren!
We had a hard fought game against Great Britain (GB). With the game going back and forth for the first 8 min, including our Assistant Coach, Missy Kehoe being thrown out for two minutes. The first goal of the tournament was a penalty goal scored by Kimberly Skukas! It was called a penalty goal because one of the GB girls gloved it out of the trough as Kim was driving it into the goal. We scored our second goal right before the end of the first half and started with a beautiful pass from Tyera Eulberg up to Katrina Finley who was able to slide it over to Christina Jones. Finishing the first half with a score of 2-0.
In the second half we had a coulpe of break downs including a couple of two minute kick outs where we were playing a woman down and GB was able to put 2 goals in. They put 1 more in with less than two minutes left in the game. In the last 36 seconds we received an advantage puck in front of GB’s goal and we were able to rally and score the goal with Christina Jones putting it in with less than 20 seconds left in the game!!!
It was a fun game and we enjoyed the Team USA cheering section on deck! We could also feel the love from our fans cheering far away via Facebook and emails including including the San Francisco Sea Lions Juniors team sending us a cute team picture! We love it! We have the best fans!!
Tomorrow we have an 8:40am game against Spain (3/26/2016- 11:40 pm PST and 3/27/2016 12:40 am MST, 1:40 am CST, 2:40 am EST. Time to bring it!!!!
